The meeting of NSC was held on 24 November 2016

At the meeting of The National Statistical Council (NSC), held on November 24, 2016, the Report on the implementation of the National Statistical Programme and the Activity of the NSI in 2016 was discussed and adopted. A detailed review of the implementation of all statistical surveys and strategic priorities in 2016 was made in the Report. The members of the National Statistical Council expressed their positive opinion on its content and scope. 

The Draft National Statistical Programme for 2017 prepared by the NSI was discussed and adopted at the meeting. The National Statistical Programme envisages 257 statistical surveys and activities to be carried out by the National Statistical Institute and respectively 44 statistical surveys and activities - by the Bodies of statistics. The Draft National Statistical Programme includes also 31 new statistical surveys, activities and projects in the field of social and business statistics, development of sustainable development indicators and improvement of quality of statistical data, as well as one new survey planned by the Ministry of agriculture and food. Particular attention was paid to the involvement of NSI as a beneficiary of the projects under the Operational Programme ‘Good Governance’. As the good work within the National Statistical System was highlighted, the Draft project of the National Statistical Programme was approved by all participants. 

At the meeting some changes of the Rules on the National Statistical Council Activity were proposed and discussed. 

The President of the National Statistical Institute Mr. Sergey Tsvetarsky familiarized members of the NSC with recent decisions of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) and new directions in the development of European statistics. He underlined the growing trend for using new, additional data sources, including Big Data, and the increasing role of official statistics in quality assessment of information received by them. The preparation of the National Statistical Institute for EU Presidency in 2018 - involvement of Working Group ‘Statistics’ was discussed.
