High-level Conference “EU Enlargement: The role of Comparable and Reliable Official Statistics”
11-12 September 2025, Hotel “Bulgaria”, Burgas, Bulgaria
On the occasion of its 145th anniversary, the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria in cooperation with Eurostat is organizing high-level conference “EU Enlargement: The role of Comparable and Reliable Official Statistics”.
Official statistics play an important role in the EU enlargement process. On the one hand, reliable and comparable statistical data are a precondition for a successful accession process. On the other hand, official statistics provides the data needed for assessing other chapters and policy areas. Good partnership and cooperation are essential requirements to better answer to the challenges with which National Statistical Systems are faced on the path to EU membership. Regional cooperation between the NSIs of candidate countries and potential candidate and EU member states facilitates the sharing of common issues and experiences, and exchange of knowledge and good practices.
The aim of the Conference is to bring together Directors General of the NSIs of candidate countries and potential candidate and EU member states as well as representatives of Eurostat, to discuss the priority areas where candidate countries need to better align themselves with the European Statistical System. The candidate countries and potential candidate will have the opportunity to share what problems and obstacles they face in the various statistical domains and exchange solutions that they have been implementing, while the EU member states will share their experience and good practices acquired during the EU accession process.
The conference is part of the official calendar of the 4th Bulgarian Chairmanship-in-office of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) from 1 July 2025 until 30 June 2026. It includes a special SEECP dedicated session, which seeks to discuss opportunities for further strengthening the traditionally good cooperation between the national statistical institutes in the Southeast Europe Region through various joint initiatives.
