The process of Bulgaria’s accession to the OECD Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policy has officially concluded

With an official letter from the Chair of the Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policy of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Mr. Geir Axelsen, the President of NSI Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD, was informed of the successful conclusion of Bulgaria’s accession review to the Committee.

The National Statistical Institute received high praise for its efficient coordination of the National Statistical System, as well as for the high quality of the official statistical information produced by it and the other national authorities, in accordance with OECD’s standards and best practices.

Special attention was paid to the well-developed legal and institutional framework, the solid data infrastructure, the good registers available to the NSI and the strong expertise of the NSI employees in conducting surveys and censuses, enabling high response rate even in voluntary surveys. The NSI’s team received special gratitude for its good cooperation with the Statistics and Data Directorate of the OECD during the two mission, carried out in 2023 and 2024 at the NSI, to review the compatibility of national legislation with the only legal instrument of the OECD in the field of statistics – “Recommendation of the Council on Good Statistical Practice”.

In June 2024 a delegation of experts from the NSI and BNB, led by the President of the NSI Assoc. Prof Atanas Atanasov, PhD, took part in the 21st meeting of the Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policy held at the OECD headquarters in Paris, during which the official accession review of Bulgaria in the CSSP was held.
