Position of the National Statistical Institute on the allegations of a former employee

Published at: 27.01.2023 - 13:40

With regard to a statement by a person claiming to be a former employee of the National Statistical Institute on the air of Nova TV that he was attacked by a colleague and that the NSI is covering up the case, we should note that his claims are manipulative and largely untrue.

In October 2022, we received a report of a conflict between two NSI employees, as a result of which an investigation was immediately appointed and the institutions with jurisdiction were referred. The NSI management immediately took the following actions in the case:

1. The records from the cameras in the NSI have been checked, and there does not appear to be any such assault or aggression.

2. A Disciplinary Committee was appointed, the staff were questioned, and the relevant minutes were drawn up.

3. Further information has been gathered, and all material has been provided to the police as appropriate, including the camera footage. The NSI is fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation of the case.

4. Penalties can only be imposed after the investigation has been completed.

Untruths were told on the air of Nova TV, which had to be refuted:

1. The department in which the employee in question worked has not been changed.

2. Employees who have left the department have won a civil service competition, and they have all left for higher pay. There is not a single employee who left because of the signal. The whistleblower employee has moved to another government institution for higher pay. All this has been attested to in writing through their self-submitted inquiry forms.

The leadership of the NSI does not tolerate aggression in any way, neither verbal nor physical.

We have not yet been notified that the verification has been completed, and therefore no further information can be provided at this stage. In the event that violence is proven, the employee concerned will be disciplined. If it is proven that the above allegations are not true, the guilty will be held liable for bringing the institution into disrepute.
