The National Statistical Institute has the pleasure of presenting to the attention of the users of statistical information its new electronic publication Book publishing and Press 2023.
The publication contains statistical information on the development of publishing activity in Bulgaria by main indicators for 2023. Data by some indicators, such as: titles; circulation; average circulation of books, pamphlets, newspapers, magazines and bulletins for the period 1961 - 2023, are also included. The publication includes methodology notes and a brief analysis.
The data are classified into three sections: ‘Book publishing’, ‘Continuing publications’ and ‘Diagrams’.

Source of the data is the National Library ‘St. St. Cyril and Methodius’.
The first section, ‘Book publishing’, contains information on the published books and non-periodical publications - pamphlets and electronic publications. The data are published by decimal classification (national version) - number, circulation and their first editions, purpose, original and translated literature, type of publishers - public and private, language of the publication and fields. Since 2010, the distribution of books and pamphlets by literary groups has been abolished, and publications by volume (publishing, printing and circulation) and price are not included.
Information for electronic publications has been published since 2001 by decimal classification, publishing houses and place of publication.
The second section, ‘Continuing Publications’, presents continuing publications - newspapers, magazines, newsletters, periodicals, and other continuing publications (including reports, annual reports, reference works), by decimal classification, by year of establishment, periodicity, fields, titles, and circulation.
In the third section, Diagrams, the newspapers, books and pamphlets published and their respective circulations for 2023 are presented graphically by districts.
