Bulgarian Trade with Third Countries in the Period January - March 2015 (preliminary data)

In the period January - March 2015 the Bulgarian exports to third countries increased by 14.3% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and amounted to 3.9 Billion BGN while the imports increased by 2.1% and added up to 4.5 Billion BGN.

In the period January - March 2015  the total value of all exported goods (both for third countries and EU) amounted to 10.7 Billion BGN and compared to the corresponding period of 2014 the exports increased by 12.7% while the total value of all imported goods added up to 12.3 Billion BGN and increased by 5.2%.

Consumer Survey, April 2015

In April 2015 the total consumer confidence indicator increases by 2.6 percentage points in comparison with its January level as for the urban population the increase is 1.8 percentage points and for the rural population - 3.9 percentage points.

Construction Production Indices in March 2015

According to the preliminary data, in March 2015 the index of production in section ‘Construction’ calculated on the base of seasonally adjusted data was 0.7% below the level of the previous month. In March 2015 the working day adjusted index of production in construction decreased by 1.8% in comparison with the same month of 2014.

Industrial Production Indices in March 2015

According to the preliminary data the Industrial Production Index, seasonally adjusted, decreased by 0.8% in March 2015 as compared to February 2015. In March 2015 the working day adjusted Industrial Production Index rose by 2.9% in comparison with the same month of 2014.

Building Permits Issued and Construction of New Buildings Started in the First Quarter of 2015

In the first quarter of 2015, the municipal authorities issued building permits for construction of 960 residential buildings with 4 297 dwellings, of 24 administrative buildings/offices and 856 other buildings. The construction of 543 residential buildings with 3 218 dwellings, of 18 administrative buildings/offices and 404 other buildings was started.

Production and Deliveries of Energy Products, February 2015

In February 2015 compared to January 2015 a decrease of the production of solid fuels by 15.0%, liquefied petroleum gases - by 22.2%, unleaded motor gasoline - by 53.8%, transport diesel - by 43.9%, natural gas - by 20.0%, electricity - by 14.0% is reported.

In February 2015 compared to January 2015 an increase of the deliveries of unleaded motor gasoline by 105.0% and transport diesel - by 88.8% is reported. At the same time a decrease of the deliveries of solid fuels by 13.7%, natural gas - by 11.2% and electricity - by 12.4% is reported. No change for the deliveries of liquefied petroleum gases is reported.

Producer Price Indices in Industry, March 2015

Producer Price Index on Domestic Market in March 2015 increased by 0.6% compared to the previous month; compared to the same month of 2014 the domestic prices fell by 0.4%. Total Producer Price Index in March 2015 rose by 1.6% compared to the previous month; compared to the same month of 2014 the prices went up by 0.5%.

In April 2015 the total business climate indicator increases by 2.5 percentage points compared to its level from the previous month which is due to the improved business climate in construction and retail trade.

Education in the Republic of Bulgaria for 2014/2015 School Year

The main results of the yearly exhaustive surveys that characterize the activity of the educational institutions, conducted by the National Statistical Institute (NSI), are:

• The number of children in kindergartens for 2014/2015 was 241.1 thousand as an increase of 0.2% is observed in comparison with the previous school year.
• In 2014, 27.3 and 26.2 thousand students graduated secondary education in respectively general and vocational schools.
• For the 2014/2015 academic year, the number of enrolments in higher education was 279.0 thousand persons, which is a decrease with 1.5% in comparison to the previous year.
• Significant increase of the number of Ph.D. students is observed. As of 31.12.2014, 6 671 Ph.D. students were enrolled in the country, or 9.3% more than the previous year.
