Additional questionnaire under the Household Budget Survey in the Fourth Quarter of 2021

Since September 2021 the National statistical institute has started work under the ‘Income and Living Conditions (ILC) - Statistical infrastructure under IESS - SILC 2022 module - 2021 and 2022 Infra-annual data collection’ project, the implementation of which is in accordance with Grant Agreement with the European Commission N 101052273 - 2021-BG-ILC-SILC. The project activities include a pilot data collection using additional questionnaire on social inclusion, living conditions and well-being under the Household budget survey. The additional survey was initiated by Eurostat and it is conducted according to a harmonized methodology within the European survey Infra-annual data collection on living conditions (IALC). The objective is to conduct a quarterly monitoring of the changes in the living conditions of households in the country as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and to provide an up-to-date information for harmonized European comparisons.

Income, Expenditure and Consumption of Households in 2021

The annual total income average per capita is 7 705 BGN in 2021, an increase of 10.0% compared to 2020.

Bulgarian households spent an average of 7 042 BGN per capita in 2021, or 13.2% more compared to 2020.

Statistical data show changes in the household consumption structure in Bulgaria in 2021 compared to 2020.

Trade in goods of Bulgaria with Third Countries in the Period January - February 2022 (preliminary data)

In the period January - February 2022, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries increased by 33.9% compared to the same period of 2021 and amounted to 4 277.2 million BGN, while the imports of goods from third countries grew by 73.3% and added up to 6 792.7 million BGN.

In the period January - February 2022, the total value of all exported goods to third countries and the EU amounted to 12 867.1 million BGN, which is 31.0% more than the same period of the previous year, while the total value of all imported goods from third countries and the EU added up to 15 331.2 million BGN and grew by 46.2%.

Activity of accommodation establishments in February 2022

In February 2022, during the continuing epidemic situation, 1 675 accommodation establishments - hotels, motels, camping sites, mountain chalets and other establishments for short-term accommodation with more than 10 bed-places, functioned in the country. The total number of rooms in them was 49.9 thousand and the bed-places were 101.2 thousand. In comparison with February 2021, the total number of accommodation establishments (functioned during the period) increased by 0.5% and the bed-places in them - by 3.5%.

The total number of nights spent in all accommodation establishments registered in February 2022 was 793.9 thousand, or by 26.5% more in comparison with the same month of the previous year.

The total revenues from nights spent in February 2022 reached 54.1 million BGN and increased by 53.7% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Construction Production Indices in February 2022

According to the preliminary data, in February 2022 the index of production in section ‘Construction’ calculated on the basis of seasonally adjusted data was 0.2% above the level of the previous month. In February 2022, the calendar adjusted index of production in construction increased by 4.3% in comparison with the same month of 2021.

Turnover Indices in 'Retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles' in February 2022

According to the preliminary seasonally adjusted data in February 2022 the turnover in ‘Retail trade, except motor vehicles and motorcycles’ at constant prices decreased by 0.5% compared to the previous month. The calendar-adjusted turnover rose by 6.6% compared to the same month of the previous year.
