NSI participates in the 58th Congress of the International Statistical Institute

The President of the National Statistical Institute Assoc. Prof. Mariana Kotzeva will take part in the 58th World Statistics Congress of the International Statistical Institute (ISI), which will be held in Dublin, Ireland, from 21st to 26th August 2011.
Mrs. Kotzeva is a member of the International Statistical Institute and at the forthcoming Congress, she will present a paper entitled “Tools for Communicating on new Challenges in Official Statistics: Examples from Bulgaria”. The paper deals with a set of examples on new tools for communicating and dissemination of official statistics such as social media, focused websites, visualization and GIS. Good practices of the Bulgarian official statistics, differentiated by user groups and statistical themes, are described. The focus is on the new challenges for official statistics related to better measurement of social progress, well-being and sustainability.
The International Statistical Institute has held biennial Congresses since 1853. This most comprehensive and unique forum brings together statisticians from both developed and developing nations to share expert experience.
Chairman of ISI 2011 National Organising Committee is Mr. Gerard O’Hanlon, Director General of the Central Statistics Office, Ireland. There are over 2300 delegates from about 120 countries registered for the Congress in Dublin. Participants include academics, government and private sector statisticians and related experts from various institutions. A key feature of the forthcoming Congress will be the special Theme Day to be held on 24th August, devoted to statistical issues relating to Water and Water Quality.
