Main results of the Census 2011 carried out by Internet from 1<sup>st</sup> to 9<sup>th</sup> of February 2011 in Bulgaria

From 1st until 28th February 2011, the 17th Population and Housing Census is conducted in Bulgaria. This is the first census since the country is a member-state of the EU. For the first time Internet census is applied. Electronic census is accepted with a great interest and an extremely high participation rate is observed.

The total number of persons enumerated by Internet is 3 100 023 which presents 41.2% of the total number of persons living in Bulgaria.

Enumerated persons are living in 1 143 863 dwellings and are distributed in 1 209 195 households. Average number of persons living in one dwelling is 2.7 and one household is composed of 2.6 persons an average.

Female population represent 52.4% of the total number of persons enumerated by Internet and male - 47.6%.

91% of the total number of persons enumerated by Internet are living in urban and 9% - in rural areas.

By districts highest activity is observed in Sofia-city – 68.7% of the total number of population, followed by Varna – 54.3%, Gabrovo – 43.3%, Ruse and Pernik – 42.2%, Burgas – 42% and other.
