The main topic of the last meeting of the Working Party on Statistics held under the Bulgarian Presidency on 14 June 2018 was the Proposal for a Framework Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on European business statistics and repealing 10 legal acts in the field of business statistics (FRIBS). The discussions focused on the legal architecture of the proposal, as well as the content of the delegated and the implementing acts. The main issues examined during the meeting were related to the conditions for the exchange of micro-data in the field of international trade in services.

The Chair of the Working Party on Statistics Sergey Tsvetarsky suggested discussing again the compromise text on the Proposal for a Regulation on the harmonisation of gross national income at market prices (GNI Regulation) that was reached during the trilogue of 10 April. Several alternatives for possible amendments were presented with the aim of finding a proposal acceptable to all parties. In particular, the texts prepared by Ireland and Spain and the possible risks of not adopting the regulation were discussed.

The Presidency informed the delegations about the main results of the last technical meetings of 25 May and 6 June and the trilogue of 31 May on the Integrated European Social Statistics file (IESS). Mr. Tsvetarsky presented the Presidency’s plans for the next technical meetings and political trilogues until the end of June 2018.

The Director General of Statistics Austria outlined the main issues, which will be discussed during the upcoming Austrian Presidency.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Sergey Tsvetarsky thanked all the Member States’ delegations, the General Secretariat of the Council and the Commission for their constructive spirit, good faith and support during the Bulgarian Presidency.
